Hi. Just found this big slipware plate (28 cms diameter) in a charity shop.   The impressed RP seal immediately made me think of Richard Phethean, but I only know his current work which isn't much like this, and have never seen any of his earlier pots.  Can anyone confirm if this is by him, please?

Doesn't look like his mark or his usual style. I don't know who's it is , sorry, but looking at the messy base and the mix of painted and sgraffito decoration my gut feeling is it's a hobby potter.

Thank you Naomi. Somehow I don't feel that it is by a hobby potter. I agree that the sgraffito decoration is a bit weak, but otherwise it's a competently thrown and glazed piece and looks to me to be professionally made.

However, I emailed Richard Phethean and he's confirmed that he didn't make it, so I guess it will just have to remain a mystery pot.

Thanks Naomi, another brilliant spot! I occasionally visit Rait (near Dundee) because there's an antiques centre nearby, but never knew there had been a pottery there.

Now, I wonder what I did with the charger? Haven't seen it for years. Perhaps it's in the attic... Shrugs
