Photo Quiz
A bit of nostalgia for you all to pass the cold January nights.
This curiosity came my way with some other bits and pieces from Mike Lovitt so I must firstly thank him. It was taken on a CPA trip to China in 1978. The is an article in the Ceramic Review No. 54 where this photo is published in B/W. The article is called 'Potters go to China by ..... ' Mike very kindly has gone to some effort to name the people in the photo who are mostly potters i believe - not sure?
If anyone cares to take a guess I will confirm names. Also confirmation would be helpful. Thanks
To avoid confusion - standing - left to right x7, and seated left to right x 9 - I have names for all except seated third and fifth from the left.

Re: Photo Quiz
Mary Perry (Rich) bottom right?
Maybe Peter Beard in the middle at the back?
No idea really, I don't have a clue what most potters look like!

Re: Photo Quiz
Are the men standing at the back 2nd from left Frank Smith and 3rd Peter Dick?
The person seated 2nd left with cap is Janet Leach. Is the one in front of her with the curls Tessa Fuchs?

Re: Photo Quiz
Yes SP - I knew you would know some. All correct. Janet would have been sixty, Born Texas, in 1918.
Re: Photo Quiz
Frank Smith was responsible for me getting interested in studio pottery, as his were the first studio pots I ever bought.

Re: Photo Quiz
it does make me smile looking at the denim hats, the hairstyles, adidas bags (back in fashion) the cameras (expensive items then), collars and five of the seven men have beards (also somewhat back in fashion).
Re: Photo Quiz
She is there somewhere though? I know she went, as she organised a similar trip years later.22 Crawford St. wrote:Christine-Ann Richards - no I have a different name.

Re: Photo Quiz
The trouble with females is that their hair colour can change even before going grey.
Is the woman in the cap kneeling next to Peter Beard, Brigitte?

Re: Photo Quiz
Sorry, been a busy day.
Potty. Seated 5th from left is an unknown - I have a sketchy first name.
SP - Yes Seated 8th from left with the dandy cap and big smile is indeed Brigitte Appleby of Briglin Pottery.

Re: Photo Quiz
I believe Eileen's husband, Oscar Lewenstein, went on the trip so he could be one of the men.
I don't know who John Sweetman was but I have seen a picture of him in dark glasses and by a process of elimination I think he is the man 1st left with the Adidas bag.

You're too good, Yes far left standing with adidas bag is John Sweetman.
Busy ATM but that list is correct. Matches the first names only I have for a couple.
Hint... Eileen Lewenstein went...she is on Bakers list.

Re: Photo Quiz
Ok using the notes I got from Mike and the Baker list of CPA members who went I think this is the complete list.
I did notice that there is another member at the back who may be out of shot.
I found this on Oldrich Asenbryl, who lost movement in his right arm to a stoke. I think it's wonderful that he still pots forty years since this photo was taken (blog post from Summer 2014).

It's been fun, thank you all for your help. If I get time I may post on my site a brief history of each potter and what became of them. Try to hunt down some more internet images.
