Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
Hull-based film company NDE Films is getting ready to make a DVD of workers memories from the halcyon days of Hornsea Pottery and they are putting out a public appeal with an assortment of archive images.

Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
At the last hornsea collectors meeting, a member who was a former empytee,
showed a most interesting video. A copy of a copy on VHS of various periods of
production. He is hoping to try and get it cleaned up and digitised.
A young John Clappison, and the mechanisation at the Lancaster pottery were
particularly intersting, in beteween the amateur home-movie stuff.

Interesting little piece of Hornsea I picked up recently
I had a good weekend in the charity shops last weekend and the highlight was this little vase (4") that I was very surprised to find was Hornsea. Small but so vivid it really punches well above it's weight in the cabinet. Really stands out.

The full set of the 4 "Multicoloured slipware" vases from 1961.
Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
Two 'Tasty Dish' trays. I am not sure when these were made, but it was probably in the early 1960s.
I have seen another design, with a woman wearing a conical hat. How any designs were there? I also think they came with different colourways...

A bit earlier Brin, It's "Gaiety" from 1964-5. There are several colourways.
They re-used the moulds from the 1963 "Slipware" range.

"The girl with the tree-like hair" Muramic. A recent purchase, after looking for this
one for so long. An iconic Clappison design.

were you at the auction last year when the bust of a girl lamp was sold?

Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
I think there was one a while back that was unsold (high reserve).
This last meeting's one was damaged around the lampholder area,
Over-tightened probably, and had been badly repaired with brown glue.
The member who won it said he knew a good restorer, and it would be a
fairly easy job, as there was nothing missing.
He still paid a fair bit for it as I remember.
An impressive item, but strangely did nothing for me.

Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
Y-shaped flower holders 301 & 302.
The book attributes these to Marion Campbell (1957). but were actually designed
by John Clappison.
He was rather embarassed, even ashamed, to have been required to plagiarise an
iconic Stig Lindberg design.
There is also a pale blue version.

An unusual double fish Muramic at today's Hornsea meeting. They were sold in kit-form
to assemble yourself, but with the rear paper label, this may have been a shop display
or factory sample.

Seven Dwarfs mug, dated 1972 on the base. No credit to Disney, though clearly inspired by their versions of the characters.
