Coffee/Tea Pot With S mark. Is It John Singleman?

The S stamp is a tricky one for me to pin down, there seems so many subtle variations. I think sometimes it's down to experience. I have another John Singleman pot which Naomi identified for me, the stamp looks the same but they are very different pots.
Could someone help me with this one?

Not convinced. Singleman's mark is similar but seems to be a subtley different font, and different clay and glaze.

I don't know either of the work of these potters (I'm too young ) but it looks late 1960s/early 1970s in style so I think Naomi is correct but I can't confirm.

This is what I mean when I say experience counts, it's easy to find a mark in a book but sometimes it's not that simple. Thanks, I still can't believe all this amazing advice is freely given. ...I'll probably get a big bill now.

I'm really happy with your id Naomi & SP, haven't found any Plowman pottery so far.  I've followed the forum threads and searched but I can't find much about Stalham Pottery apart from he was there a long time 1963 - 1990. I wondered if you could tell me whilst he was there did Thomas Plowman always use the 'S' and his own stamp on his pots or if it's just 'S' for Stalham it's still his pot and it can be called a Plowman?

I don't know about this particular pottery, but if potteries employ a helper or apprentice to make their standard ware then they just use the pottery stamp.

I don't think you can ever really say that a pot with just the pottery stamp is by the main potter even though they might have made it.

For example, I have a couple of bowls that have the Lowerdown Pottery mark that I bought from David Leach back in the 1990s and they get used most days. When I bought them he said that he had made them but relating that doesn't really give them any provenance.

Odd coincidence - here's a small pot by Thomas Plowman of Stalham Pottery found in a charity shop and identified just yesterday.  The S mark is a bit different to yours, but judging by the potting and glazing, they could well be by the same potter.

Thanks r-and-f, it is a reassuringly similar style. The S is slightly different as you say, but I guess potters have new stamps at some point which may be slightly different...at least yours has his personal stamp, so there's no doubt.

This is how similar the S stamps are. I tried to put them together the John Singleman at the top, not clearest mark sorry, and Stalham Pottery (Thomas Plowman) at the bottom, and there is a subtle difference...not to mention, as pointed out by Naomi, utterly different styles of pot!
