Seaside oil painting signed Cox?
A donation to the local charity shop but they lost the label so need to re-identify it before it can be sold. I vaguely recall what it said; the artist was based in Dorset? Was a member of the Royal Academy and this was painted in the 1980s? Artists name might be Cox or has the initials C??

Re: Seaside oil painting signed Cox?
Haven't been able to find an artist with the surname Cox or another short name beginning with C that was active in the 1980s and working in or around Dorset.
Certainly haven't found a Royal Academician called Cox, with the exception of Stephen Cox, who makes enormous sculptures.

Yes, I haven't had much luck either. Must be a different name. There is an Atkins who lives and paints similar pieces in Dorset but not quite the right paint strokes and I'm sure this guy was 80s so Atkins is too young

Found the accompanying note. Attributed to Harley Crossley, 1980. Uses knives to paint with, based in Dorset. BUT, doesn't seem to be his usual signature.

I found Harley on the internet so he could be asked as to whether it's by him. However, he doesn't look up in any serious directories of British artists.
I wonder what the AMSOA after his name is supposed to signify?

Says he's a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild, what ever that is

Meaningless pretending to me more important than he is but the best I can come up with for AMSOA is American Medical Society On Alcoholism.
To be honest the painting looks much better than anything I can find by Harley.
