Upsala Ekeby unmarked - Probably Ann Lisa Thompson
Hi..Thanks for adding me to this forum. I collect Burmantofts and Troika studio pottery usually but recently bought an item that I believed to be a Spectra Flora dish by the designer Anna Lisa Thomson for the Upsala Ekeby studio..Having bought it unseen I find that it isn't marked in the usual way, impressed and with ALT as a moniker. There is a a black squiggle but I don't think is anything. I am concerned that I have bought a piece that although being nice is not genuine...
The dish is just as you would find the Spectra series with a blue reverse, a grey pottery finish and colouful enamelling but there's no identification marking...
I can't see how to upload my photos so I'm appealing to anyone else who may have experience in the UE style to respond.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing some beautiful pottery on this forum...if that's not too geeky..😀
Cheers...

No, the base has no impressed marks at all...That's what I would have expected to see..following my research. Off to switch from ipad to pc to see if I can get these photos up.

So, that was a faff..anyhow the pictures are up. The top one is the front of the dish which is slightly curved. The enamel is well executed and smooth with the rest of the frontside of the dish slightly rough.
The middle picture is the centre piece..as you can see there is a slight black squiggle. Having checked the UE archive online it doesn't resemble anything significant. There are no impressed makers marks on the base as you can see.
Hopefully someone will come back to me with an opinion. This piece was in a Decorative Arts sale so although I bought it on a picture of the frontside only the mere company it kept within the sale..big makers represented.. I would have expected to see a makers mark. I have asked my the auction house to get back to me with their identification method.

Well, good news. I have received an email from Scandi pottery specialists Accent in Denmark and they have said that they have seen lots of UE pottery that have very indistinct or no marks...but she is in no doubt from my pictures and description that it is genuine. I am now waiting to hear from my auctioneer to get his/her take on the identification of the dish as it came in to them. It's looking good folks. 👍🏻

Right, I've waited 2 weeks for the ceramics expert at the auctioneers to get back to me with some sort of assurance that the dish I bought unmarked is in his expert valuers opinion genuine. The reply is totally laughable and just goes to prove that we can all be experts...really, we can.
"Thank you for your email and well done on your purchase. I Would suggest doing a simple google image search using the words Anna Liasa Thomson Upsala spectra and you will find similar if not identical designs to the one you have."
Hansons Auctioneers in Derby. I would not buy from them again and I have learned my lesson to ask more questions and request more photos before bidding.
