Triangular Shaped Bonbon Dish 'J Gutten' Canada
About 16.5cms across the widest points. It looks so much like Blue Mountain Pottery, but there's no mark to indicate that and it has 'J Gutten Canada 61' on the base. I was wondering if this was a name anyone knew was associated with BMP, or if I'm on the wrong track. I know they had many different marks, but I can't find this Gutten fellow.....or lady.

very similar to BMP and cant find a record of the name, but many potters/artists that worked at BMP went on to start their own similar potteries and most without success - J Gutten could be one of those?

Thanks for your comment, it's what I thought might be the case.
I agree that there's probably not a lot to find on the individual potter in this case.

I can find a couple of passing references to J Gutten having, or at least proposing, a factory in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in 1964. The actual adress of the company is given as "J Gutten Ceramics Mfgr Co. Ltd, 3481 Cawthra Road, Cooksville".

A google books snippet result from the "Ceramic Industry - Volumes 82-83" for 1964 reads: "The Niagara Falls, Ontario, city council approved the first step in establishing a ceramics and pottery firm here that dates more than two centuries ago in Germany. "

So does that mean J Gutten (who does sound German) probably moved an established family business from Germany and applied to build a factory in Ontario in 1964. Great information.
