Chelsea like Charger - George H. Wilson
Hi all
Picked up this large 13 inch bowl / Charger a short while ago and in two minds who made it. At first glance I thought Chelsea. I have seen the shape from them before, they used the same clay, same style of foot, same back colour even an almost identical way if signing but it does not say Chelsea. From what I can see its something Wilson? Anyone have an attribute for me or some clues on its origins ?
Thanks

Thanks for the tip. This is all I could find about George H Wilson. I can find almost nothing on the web about him.
"George Wilson was born in 1924 and passed away 2004. Worked in Richmond Surrey in the late 1950s then moved to West London in the 1970s he ceased potting in 2001"

I was asked for information about him from another dealer, who hadn't been able to find anything.................. but I know nothing.
He kept himself to himself.

I stick by a Chelsea link. I think he must have used them to throw, glaze or even was simply inspired by Chelsea It is so similar underneath to the bowls and dishes I have seen that I would strongly suggested a link. It is after all the same period as Chelsea and he appears to have lived very closely to that pottery. Of it could just be me and my eyesight.

Certainly in the early days the Chelsea Pottery was run on a club type basis. You paid an annual subscription and came in when you liked, used the facilities and learn various skills, if you wished.
The style of this Wilson piece does suggest that he could have done that.

It could explain why he is so scarce if he did not have his own kilm at various stages. There is also a load of unsigned Chelsea style plates on the market, he could have simply not bothered marking his own stuff. Still its speculation until we learn anything different. At some stage during the summer it will crop up at one of the fairs I attend on my stall and someone else can fall in love with it
