Small Pot With HJ Mark
I was just intrigued by the incised HJ. The pot looks quite old and seems to have no function, it's not even decorative. I was wondering if it was Newcomb decorator Harriet Joor, possibly a practice pot? Probably not but just wondered.....

"Many of the earliest experimental pieces were red-bodied, undecorated wares made to test various glaze recipes in the kiln. At its very young age, the Pottery had not yet established an identity and some of these early pieces blatantly emulate ancient ceramic prototypes, particularly those from the Orient."
Some Newcomb decorators, HJ amongst them:

Possibly Harriet Joor:

On second thoughts, I think the clay is all wrong and Harriet was incredibly talented doubt she'd make this. I'm now talking myself out of it before I've even had a comment!

I think it's the wrong clay and Hans de Jong's mark was a stamp, eg -

Sorry, I'm not seeing the quality I'd expect of a professional potter
