Chalkware / plaster Lion

Hi, I could use some help with this Lion. It is a great pose and seems well modelled and all in proportion (a  lot aren't) 10" x 14". Has the number 140 or 740. Sadly it is damaged to one side of the face but still displays really well from the good side. Thanks

Looks like it's made of quality form of plaster of Paris. Pattern Number 140. Possibly from the 1920s-30s when such pieces were sold at fairs and shows. Termed 'chalkware' in the US. I have a number of plaster bookends from that time. Other than that I could say. I don't know if anyone has researched who made them. This might be from a zoo.

Hi, the base is solid and the lion itself seems  hollow somehow?   It is all chalk/plaster so I should be able to sort the damage. I do think it has a great look to it and for a 'chalkware' piece it is very nicely done. My wife is definitely of the other opinion :-) Thanks NaomiM
