Stupid Mistake by Me
Ok I've think it's happened again. Couple of years ago a seller listed a Briglin Teapot at 99p start and I win for 99p, all well and good and I pay, he posts and then....nothing.... contact him and he says that must have gone missing, I ask for proof of postage but of course there is none as it was 2nd class cheepo. My serious suspicion was that it was never posted in the first place. He keeps it and relists in a year or two and gets a 2nd chance. I get refunded £4 postage.
I won something that was 'interesting', a punt. I think I've been had again, daft daft, daft. If the seller thinks it's vastly under sold then this is a good trick. Nothing I can do.
What I should have done is immediately ask for upgraded postage to signed for, special delivers etc.
There is still a chance it will turn up next week but I have my doubts..
What a numpty!

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
Raise an Ebay complaint In these cases, its up to the seller to prove delivery ie signed for. If he cannot, then Ebay nearly Always side with the buyer and refund money. Complaints also effect a seller's standing in search, and can well get them chucked out. Don't let the seller get away with it!

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
Philpot, you misunderstand, he refunds my 99p and postage without any question. No way to prove what he has done as the standard postage for this 99p items was not signed for and only minimal cost.
Problem is I don't get the item which I think is worth £100+.

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
It's simply bad luck. The seller obviously thought they'd get more for it and made up the excuse that it had gone missing when they are unlikely to have posted it in the first place. Nothing you can do, unfortunately, except maybe offer a higher amount 'if it happens to turn up'.

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
I've been caught out by that ruse before by a seller who lists a lot of studio pottery for 99p. If it's the same seller then I suspect everyone's now got wind of their antics and are avoiding bidding. It would probably have been under packed and arrived broken anyway

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
often a seller will claim they dropped a pot when packing it to avoid selling at a low price, I simply blacklist them and move on

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
I've just had to refund a buyer because the item (large ceramic cat) arrived smashed. My first broken piece. I should have used a larger box and more bubblewrap because obviously the packaging could not survive being drop kicked from one side of the sorting depot to the other.

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
It's never happen to me - do you has recourse to claim from the postal company? Of do you just scratch it off and buy more bubble wrap?
Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
only very expensive pieces warrant the time consuming and stressful process of claiming from postal companies

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
Small print always says they don't cover ceramics or glass from damage, although they do cover for theft/loss. It was my fault. Usually I double box or have at least a few inches of packaging between the box and the item. This time I thought the box would be strong enough. My fault.

Another one tonight .... 2 min form end, item still at no bids awaiting 99p first bid
This listing was ended by the seller because the item was lost or broken
Really?

Re: Stupid Mistake by Me
It's possible. I had to end an auction that had a bid on it, a day or two from the end, because I'd started packing everything that was going to be sold and simply couldn't find it. It was £20 down the drain, and eBay charges commission if there's a bid when you end it. Still haven't found it - a pair of sunglasses. I have a horrible feeling it was wrapped in a bit of bubble wrap that I used as packing on another parcel
