There's a J.H. Manning, 1956-61, although the Marks book only shows a stamped mark 'Handmade Cowes' and 'JHM' inside, or a Jo IoW in island ink stamp, and M. on the side.

Jack Manning is in the IOW book, which is pretty comprehensive on marks,
but this looks like SM anyway. Certainly a Lester influence there.
