Oil drop or leopard skin' teapot - Japanese Jakatsu?
I bought this set around a month ago and, despite a lot of googling, I can't find anything similar so I am stumped. I can't find a maker's mark on the items but they look hand painted as the speckles are raised and are thicker in some places than others and the design continues to the base of each item. The teapot is around 14cm high and the cups 7cm. They are lovely to handle. Would be grateful for any leads/suggestions.

I think it's Japanese. There is a name for this form of crawled glaze but I can't remember it right now

Thanks very much, NaomiM - I will start looking at Japanese teapots (and glazes) specifically. Appreciate the pointer.

It's called kairagi when associated with usually white Hagi glazes and might well be the name used throughout Japan.
I agree with Naomi that it looks Japanese but it's factory made, looks very new and was almost certainly made largely for export.

With Hagi ware the glaze is largely feldspar but with kaolin. Its the kaolin that gives the whiteness and the more you add within reason the more it crawls in firing.
The teapot and cups with have been done differently I'm sure because the "crawl" is too controlled.
