Are you sure it's Japanese?

I *think* so. Although the shape doesn't scream Japanese, the persimmon/tenmoku on the handle and the ash glaze ( I think, correct me if I am wrong!) body would line up with a possible Mashiko attribution. Also, it was part of a large collection that was purportedly collected in Japan.
That said, I am often way off the mark and this could be another case!

I'll move it to ID My Pottery until we're sure.

I've expanded my research on this piece and it does bear some resemblance to coffee pots made at the Leach studio. This one may be a Western outlier in the collection!

The glazed circle on the base is reminiscent of Abuja/Wenford Pottery, but the Nuka glaze is more like Japanese pottery.
