Gargoyle Jug?
Heavy stoneware, old type glaze, seems to have age? Is this high Victorian, Edwardian? Unmarked
Re: Gargoyle Jug?
Looks like an item from the low countries across the channel from England. I would guess Edwardian possibly nudging Victorian.

Re: Gargoyle Jug?
TY MD - hard to look up on the internet as I as soon as you put in 'grotesque' or 'gargoyle' it just jumps to Martinware - which it is not.
Re: Gargoyle Jug?
Your right Martinware dominates google searches.
The green almost sponged colour of this jug shouts Belgium with a white clay that also indicates that part of the world. The style although looks modern is very traditional. If you think the gargoyles on church's your not far out. Its a fun thing, not seen it before. You don't say the size but the bigger it is the more likely it's for beer or wine.

Re: Gargoyle Jug?
Yes he looks like a church gargoyle. Almost carved - very deep. He's only small though. I checked when cleaning him and he does not pour. Not unless you want a wet table cloth. Make me think he was made buy a stonemason. I'll sit him with my owls and my critter.
