Weilenbacher Keramic
Hi,
Is anyone able to give me any insight into this item?
I can't find out whether it's a pendant or a plaque.
I have no idea of age other than pre 1989 as it says W. Germany on the rear
Many thanks in advance

Re: Weilenbacher Keramic
Looks like a copy of a wax seal that would have been affixed to a string that tied a scroll (official proclamation or similar) written by this particular king - Friedrich I, Barbarossa. Without googling it, i assume he was crowned in 1157.
Probably made for tourists after WW2

Thank you so much! I hadn't even thought about it being that. I tried to google it & checked eBay for similar but there's nothing at all on there that I could find except a French auction long finished with no information on age, what it actually was for etc.
I obviously knew there was no real age to it, it's just great to be able to tell people "...and this is my replica wax seal made in West Germany"
No, he was actually crowned several times before that and I don't know what he did that was so important in 1157.

Re: Weilenbacher Keramic
According to Wiki, in 1157 "the term sacrum ("holy") first appeared in a document in connection with his Empire". It wouldn't surprise me if this is a replica of a seal attached to that document.
The 3.78 on your piece is probably the production date.
Just out of interest, did you Google the name as Weilenbacher or Weilerbacher?!

Oops that's a typo! Yes I think I googled as Weilerbacher. That's a really interesting piece of information regarding the word 1157 so thank you for that.
I see I have an awful lot to learn on my journey as a buyer/collector and I've already learned things this evening from the people here which is great!
