Can anyone help please? Mystery Jug!
Hi all!
I have recently acquired quite a lot of old items. I have been spending a lot of time researching most of it which has been really interesting.. you find out plenty if you put in the time on the internet!
I have one item though that is puzzling me. Its a jug... and although all of my items are old.. this appears to be quite modern looking but I can't find anything about it and the marks on the bottom are confusing me.. its has imprinted on it 'Made in Lisbon' but then says 'England'
The painted mark I think says S&C , but also has a T... I am lost! Can find nothing.
Somebody I have shown says they think its old.. but I think its not... Can anyone shed any light on it? Nevertheless it is a very pretty jug!
Thanks in advance!

Others will know better than me, but it looks like it's marked Made In England, and the design is called Lisbon. Decorators mark 385 x
Possibly by one of the Staffordshire factories, c.1930s-50s

Looks like Wadeheath from the 1930's. Its not from the 1940's, WW2 and rationing resulted in almost no ceramics that were not plain in colour or for export getting made.

Re: Can anyone help please? Mystery Jug!
Companies did resume production after the war, and were slow to change their designs until well into the 50s

Thanks very much everyone! Now I have a name I've been looking them up and there are jugs rather similar to this I have found online... only thing is they all have wade or wadeheath stamps... mine does not have anything like that.. do you think it's not genuine wadeheath? I really want to get to the bottom of this one ha! It's been keeping me on my toes for the last few days!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: Can anyone help please? Mystery Jug!
Difficult to be certain it is Wadeheath. I am not an expert on that period but it was pretty common for ceramics to have numbers (stock codes) not makers on the base. The focus on who made something is a more of a modern thing. A lot of retailers did not see it as positive and did not want people to buy the same thing from someone else. So you get numbers on the base and designs only sold in certain stores.

I think it's likely to be Arthur Wood.
