Japanese Vase - Love Birds - Pomegranates
Help please. A very nice mini cabinet vases with two hand painted love birds & pomegranates on a moulded porcelain body. My guess, dating from the 1900s to 1940s or later and unmarked. Would love to know the pottery and history.
Thanks

Pretty little vases. They do look like mid 20th century pieces, so you are probably thereabouts with the age.
It is hard to tell (with my eyes at least) whether they are part transfer printed and part hand painted.
They may be Oriental or European, in my opinion. Sorry I cannot give you anything solid to go on.

Not sure there is any Japanese connection. They look hand-coloured due to the
smears outside the black outlines.

I'd be inclined to agree that they are probably hand painted transfer prints. If not oriental they borrow the oriental symbolism of two birds as devoted lovers with pomegranates symbolizing fecundity- so a union blessed so to speak

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The vase is all hand painted. I have another vase like this, will include a picture. Again, thanks for all your replies.
