Auction Watch!!!
Recently was watching the Macclesfield Adam Partridge Auctions and was struck by some of the prices...
Namely:-
Maltby Spade form reaching in excess of 6k (that's without the additional Buyer' premium + Artist Resale)
Ewen Hendersen had recently taken a little bit of a slump in pricing but these all sold at VERY strong prices
Robin Welch Pieces +++ sold at very strong prices...
Of course it takes 2 to tango in auctions but can't help feel that as these are often an indicator to values if there are market forces at work deliberatley pushing up the costs of invested pieces - I mean 6k for a Maltby this is a massive jump on precedent sales that i'm aware of.
Will be interesting to see what effects the ripples of these sales will have on the residual costs coming up elsewhere!!!

Re: Auction Watch!!!
The *exceptional* Maltby pieces had already fetched some high prices last year I think, the vase that went for 6k+ was probably the best example of his work I've seen. That said, his prices for that style of work have been going up fairly steady at auction. The Robin Welsh pieces went for a bit less than I was expecting, if I remember correctly!

Re: Auction Watch!!!
Maybe it’s because those potters have reached their 80s?

Re: Auction Watch!!!
Maltby is part of a rising market for Studio pottery. The largest and most 'painterly' ones are the one's most in demand. After all, why not? He is a very good potter, his work has had significant value for a long time, these large pots are in limited supply as he stopped making them in the mid 90's.
