Another unsigned piece , stoneware tea bowl.
Another unsigned piece This one came out of the same tub as the possible Batterham yesterday, so I must have thought highly of it at the time.
I know it probably wont be identified, but it is a thing of beauty and even better in the hand, very light & tactile, so worth sharing the images of if nothing else. Not sure I can bring myself to drink from it, but it will be finding shelf space shortly, unlike the lidded one yesterday, which I will give a run on ebay at some point soon.

Tricky one. The glaze looks a bit like Karatsu glaze from Japan but I don’t think it’s a traditional shape, (unless it’s a wabi-sabi form where the beauty is in the imperfections) which points to a hobby potter

That's grand, I need to have a look in that area regarding a couple of other bits I've bought, so thank you very much Naomi.

The shape isn't correct for a teabowl but the glaze looks interesting.

Thank you studio. Would this have been made purely for its aesthetic value then?
The glaze is a delight, I am very much looking forward to researching it properly and finding out more. In the interim, it will soon be taking up shelf space, not quite sure where though.

Re: Another unsigned piece , stoneware tea bowl.
It looks like it has some age and from the images I would guess 1960s but telling the age of a piece is much more reliably done when able to touch. The shape was most likely one that the potter believed to be attractive and because of the size it is and the lack of any mark it could possibly have been one of a series of glaze tests. It reality, we'll probably never know.

Thank you again studio, much appreciated.
What you say makes good sense and I can see why they were jigging about with the shape, it certainly works for me.
