'70s Abstract Oil on Canvas . Clear signature & date

I thought I would be able to ID this as the signature and particular date layout are clear but I've drawn a blank .

Thanks for replying - yes , I thought Paul too but seemed to easy ! I haven't found a likely contender so was wondering if it was something else.

In the definitive work on artists working in Britain in 20th Century, there are a few artists with the surname Paul but the description of the work of none of them suggests that their work was abstract to any shape or form. It might not be the work of someone working in the UK but I think that it unlikely, as the frame seems contemporary with the painting and typically British taste in the 1970s.


Therefore most likely a local artist, who has been forgotten.


Are there any labels on the reverse?
