Help with ID please

I have this odd shaped pot I’d like help with please.
The more I look at the mark, the more I am convinced it’s Japanese or Chinese.
Can anyone please tell me where it’s from & what it is?? Thank you

A beaker or sake cup imo. It doesn’t match any of the foreign looking marks in the Marks book, but the cup itself doesn’t look Asian.

It could be Japanese but there is nothing about it that suggests that it is. What I mean is that it is not in any distinctive Japanese style and the darkening of the light stoneware is something that I have not seen in Japanese pottery before. Also the bottom of the drinking vessel doesn't look right to be Japanese (it's too uninteresting).
