Re: Dartington Pottery
I can see the Dartington D and squiggles but doubt there's a signature.
A rare design, possibly a one off

Re: Dartington Pottery
Possibly one of the newer designs, after Grayshott took over. Could be a decorator’s monogram after the Dart mark but that won’t be a designer’s signature

Re: Dartington Pottery
Thanks, that's helpful. Now I look again at the base, I can see that some of the marks appear to be part of the pattern. Aside from the Dartington mark, the remainder appears to be a C and a W. It doesn't look like the usual Claire Woodall monogram, but given the thickness of the brush used, and the small area available (less than 3-inches diameter), that might not have been possible. But I guess it'll have to remain unknown.

Re: Dartington Pottery
It's not in the Tchalenko book, but she used those colours, and that shape of vase at Dartington, so probably yes.
Re: Dartington Pottery
Not sure what the "Tchalenko" suggestion is suppose to mean. Not that she might have decorated it, I assume?

Re: Dartington Pottery
She did decorate pots at Dartington but generally, she came up with designs for the paintresses

Re: Dartington Pottery
There is a Grayshott design that has a similar red square; it might be something new; post-merger with Grayshott Pottery

That's what I meant.
Re: Dartington Pottery
I wasn't arguing with what you said DD just the "auctioned and identified as Tchalenko", which suggested that it might be of more value than any other Dart Pottery vase/beaker with a similar pattern. Just because she might have said "let's uses these colours with an abstract pattern similar to this".

Re: Dartington Pottery
The Tchalenko attribution purely means that the auction from which the result was obtained did not know a lot of what he was talking about or was trying to sell it up for more than what it was!

Re: Dartington Pottery
Yes, I see plenty of that on eBay and mis-attributions. I really try to be accurate with descriptions as there’s trouble if I’m not! and I want people who buy the pots to be genuinely happy with what they’ve bought. Seems pretty likely that it was a pattern used very little that didn’t take off. For whatever reason.

Re: Dartington Pottery
Poppies design was probably one of their most popular ones.
