So wanting it to be Maltby doesn’t make it so?

He was an apprentice to David Leach. His early Stoneshill work was very Leach school, but he changed quite radically. He never ever did this type of work, Just Google Maltby images!
There are a number of potters who use a capital M. Graham Matthews, Steve Mattison,Leo Matthews. I am sure Naomi will know.

It's a partial Mz mark. Another one here. Possibly Marazion Pottery?

It does look similar to other Marazion pieces I’ve seen. Thank you

every piece I have seen had a black glaze and Marazion Cornwall incised by hand on the base.

Yes, it’s an old discussion on the FB ID group. A keen collector of Cornish pottery said its early George Nash at Marazion, before he started making the popular black glazed tourist pieces. I asked about the RW monogram and he just said that Nash employed other potters. I’m a bit dubious. I suspect it’s a Marazion pottery run by someone else. The RW stamp is similar, but not the same, as Rod Weightman who set up The Piggin Pottery in the 70s
