Here we go again

The Japanese have been doing it for centuries but it’s all the rage now in the West. They sell the kits at the Ceramics fairs. I have one for silver and one for gold. Originally I think they used real gold but now it’s a gold coloured resin, or epoxy glue that’s painted over with gold lacquer. Tbh, I find it horrible.

I have had people contacting me to ask if I have any cracked pots that I don't want. I am tempted to suggest that maybe they could buy a cheap undamaged pot from me and smash it themselves before fixing.

I have a 12th century Korean oil pot repaired this way. These types of repairs were not ever done in gold metal, the repair material has always been gold Japanese lacquer.

I gave my husband the gold kintsugi kit to repair a chipped pot. The gold colour is a fine dust and he opened the pot upside down! He was not happy
