Yellow Ochre Art Deco Bowl/Planter Signed 'Louise'
Hallo all.
This is one of my favourite colours; so buying the bowl was inevitable!
I think the design is Art Deco and the dimensions are 13cm tall by 16cm diameter. There is crazing throughout.
The bowl is signed 'Louise' on the base with a '7' or an 'L'. I've failed to find this mark in Eric Yates-Owen/Hazelwood and suspect it may not be English (with the obvious possibility I'm wrong!).
Does anybody recognise the style/age/maker of this bowl?
Thank you for your help.
Jack

Re: Yellow Ochre Art Deco Bowl/Planter Signed 'Louise'
Louise is probably the design/shape/decoration name.
I would say the style is bauhaus/secessionist.

Thank you Denbydump, your Bauhaus suggestion is an interesting one.
There appears to be a myriad designs for Bauhaus and the 'deco' appearance of my pot certainly fits the era. I will try to find a Bauhaus contact to establish whether the 'Louise' model is recognisable.
Kind regards.

What DD says are more of less my thoughts but it is English, factory made in my opinion from around 1900. It does ring a bell but it has been so long since I specialised to "art pottery" of this kind that I don't think it likely that I'll come up with a name.

Thank you S-P, much appreciated.
Are you able to tell me what it is about this pot which readily identifies itself to you as English? I think I recognise a probably age (as you say 1900) because of the style, but I'm stumped with regards to nationality.
Kind Regards

Yes sorry I did just mean the style, rather than the country of origin.
The cadmium yellow is typical of Bumantofts, Bretby, Ault etc, but I don't
recall seeing a mark like that.

and a Louise was a princess, one of Queen Victoria's children. The names that DD mentioned are the ones that came to my mind too but I don't think it has the quality of Burmantofts.

Thank you both for your thoughts, they are most interesting and useful. I shall peruse the names you have provided to see if I can find further clues.
Kind regards
