A slightly creepy vintage owl with Eric Leaper-type streaky orange and brown decoration. 14cm tall, unmarked. I suspect that the Woolworths label on the underside is a bit of a red herring as it's hand-written. Maybe Continental? Any suggestions appreciated!

Generally Woolworths was not an expensive shop. Think of the Poundland of its day. So this would have likely been mass produced and fairly cheap.

That's a bit harsh! Woolies was more like Wilko's or the Range but yes, clearly mass produced.

It looks very familiar. I wonder if they stocked Trentham Art Pottery or Wellow, or maybe one of the Canadian ones like Blue Mountain.

You could be on to something with the Blue Mountain suggestion, Naomi, so thank you. I thought that they only used red clay but apparently some of their stuff was white clay, too. There are some almost identical owl figurines made by Blue Mountain too, although smaller.
