Chinese soup bowl 18th C?
Hi,
I’ve recently picked up this porcelain soup bowl that I think could be Chinese dating from the 18th century?
It’s approx 9.5 inches in diameter and from the rim chip can see the body is of a very pure white colour , so it’s definitely not earthenware.
It has a crack with a single rivet repair so presume that this was done some considerable time ago.
The rim has a brown-tinged glaze to the very outer edge and there is some form of armorial motif too, looking like a wolf-hound or other such creature holding a spear or arrow in its mouth?
The decoration appears to be hand-painted , in fact I’m convinced it is not transfer printed .
Furthermore, the underneath is marked with several butterflies.
I’d be very grateful if anyone could help me date it or any other info!
Thanks !

Re: Chinese soup bowl 18th C?
Forgot to mention also that the glaze underneath (on the inside of the footrim) is quite pocked with small pin holes and black soot particles.....

Re: Chinese soup bowl 18th C?
The brown rim and hand painting is typical of 18thC Qainlong porcelian, so I think it's right, although it could be early 19thC. Such pieces usually have a blue tint to the glaze. If there are any spur points on the base then it would be a Japanese copy

Thanks for the info and the link, certainly hours of reading there!
There are no spur marks and after looking very closely the glaze does have a blue tinge......
Also the foot rim also has an orange tint which I think is a result of having been fired on straw ?
So I think it does point to it being 18th C?
If only items could talk I’m sure it could tell an incredible tale!
This bowl was found a few days ago in a local car boot sale stacked underneath some nondescript pottery ....despite the damage it’s still a lovely piece IMHO.
Thanks again.
