Richard Batterham jug ?
A nice stoneware jug with incised leaf decoration on a green ground. I am more inclined to think this a Batterham than I was with the previous piece I listed. I think the quality is there and the glaze is right, in my opinion. My doubts come with the incised leaf decoration, which I have not seen before. Anyone able to confirm or deny ? Many thanks.

Nice piece. But you express the main doubt yourself. That incised leaf decoration. His work is very spartan, and incised leaf decoration like that is just not his style. There are many images of his work around, but nothing with decoration like that.
He is a much admired potter, and potters have v imitate his work because of that very fact. So there is a lot of work which in auction parlance would be 'School of Richard Batterham'.

Good morning Phil, many thanks for the detailed response. That makes a lot of sense.
I guess it is like life all over, in all aspects, where many seek to copy & or imitate that which we love & respect.
Much appreciated
