Early (?) pieces of blue & white transfer-printed earthenware.....
Hi,
I’d be very grateful for any ID help with 2 transfer printed blue & white jugs in my possession.
I have searched extensively (as usual!) but trying to ID old pottery like this seems a mammoth task!
The first , large jug has a typical Willow pattern design with the distinctive characters II incorporated into the pattern .
The only mark is an underglaze ‘4’.
The second , much smaller jug is more of a cobalt blue colour and seems much crisper in the quality of the transfer print.
It also seems less of a Willow pattern, with only a single pagoda to show any oriental design influence , the architectural features seem much more European in style, the figures do too?
This jug is totally unmarked .
Thanks in advance!

Re: Early (?) pieces of blue & white transfer-printed earthenware.....
Both are pieces of pearlware (see the blue tinged glaze pooled around the inside of the foot rings) which indicates a date of both from around 1800 to 1830. The first jug looks to be around 1800-10, the second a little later.
If you're on Facebook, you might look out for the British Pottery and Porcelain Discussion Group whose members are incredibly knowledgeable about early ceramics and would probably be able to suggest makers - you have to join before submitting identification requests, though.
