Unusual old gryphon Jug???
Purchased this unusual old jug fora pound yesterday as it felt of a nice quality and i liked the decoration although
i think it is transfer printed and not hand painted still an attractive piece and the white of the pottery is very bright im not sure what its made from
to be honest and wondered if anybody may recognize the piece.
It measures 6" tall approx the base is flat and has some pink lettering 2 above 7523 and an indistinct impressed mark near the edge which i think is something like
MILAN OR MITAN With an different type of text shape below which is just a "B" in a fancier type of case

Re: Unusual old gryphon Jug???
Marks not clear but I reckon a badly impressed Minton mark.
Date cypher could be 1859, or if it is a B, 1886, in which case
it could possibly be a Dresser design.

Thank you for your replies :)
When i first looked at the impressed mark i thought it looked like MINTON funnily however i have not
seen another Minton piece for a while so as its not my field would not know if the impressed marks
were sometimes badly done, After looking a bit online just now i certainly can see similarities with the colors used on some pieces made by MINTONS the nearest i have seen color wise was designed by PUGIN which would be very nice indeed or Dresser either would be lovely :) Im certainly going to go down the MINTON route for now thank you so much

Looks like an A stamped over a MINTON stamp

There's a Christopher Dresser designed jug by Atkin Brothers on pinterest with a similar transfer design

On my screen (iPad) I can make out the word Milan, so don’t agree with the Minton ID (sorry)!

Re: Unusual old gryphon Jug???
Good. The only reason I suggested Minton was because of the similarity of the mark.
Small mark, same lettering, impressed, near the edge, often barely readable.
I own several examples like that.
