Art Nouveau Vase by Louis-Jacques Galland ... Who?
I bought this rather appealing little vase in France.
It has a rather elaborate backstamp:
L.Jac-Galland
Vitraux
Decoration
Ceramiques
14 Ave Gourgaud, Paris
He was the son of the painter and tutor (at l'Ecole des Beaux Arts Paris) Pierre-Victor Galland.
He was noted for his stained glass work in various places in and around Paris. But not for ceramics!
My question is - what had he to do with ceramics? This is the only example I have found. Does anyone know anything about him in regards to ceramics - like who taught him? Does anyone have any visual info on his other pieces?
Whilst this is a simple piece I feel it hides a greater practical knowledge than just a 'one-off' attempt at pottery of a hobbyist.
I would love to hear anything about him. Thank you.
