A Small Green Vase - Royal Doulton...signed?
Hi everyone.
This rather nice vase is 4.5" (11.5cm) tall. Lovely colour and shape.
The markings on the base are not as clear as I should like, but I'm pretty sure this is a Royal Dolton piece from between 1922-1927 (when the crown was temporarily removed from the stamp). Having said that, there is another mark (to the left) which appears to be a signature of some kind.
So, my questions are:
Am I correct in that this is Royal Dolton from 1920's?
Is it common to have additional signatures (if it is indeed a signature) accompanying the factory mark?
What does the number below the stamp represent (I think it is 89?2)?
Thank you for your help.
Jack.

The number is probably a shape number. I agree, it looks to be the c1923-27 Royal Doulton mark.

Thank you tigerchips, I'll see if I can find examples of the pattern and the 'signature'.

The lettering appears to form an almost-unbroken chain around the circle; could it be the 1928-31 mark containing 'Made in England' rather than its immediate predecessor which had only 'England' at the bottom?

Hi Grumpy Grandad.
It is difficult to see, so I concentrated on there not being a crown beneath the Lion. I'm not 100%, but I thought the only time from 1901 when Royal Doulton did not use a crown was 1922-1927.

From '22-'27 the stamp had no crown and 'England' at the bottom, '28-'31 had 'Made In' added.
A Google image search of 'Royal Doulton marks' gave both of these marks in the first image.

Thank you Grumpy Grandad
I've checked two sites...
http://potteryhistories.com/page101.html
https://antique-marks.com/doulton-marks.html
...but neither of these make the 'Made in...' addition without the crown clear.
Do you know of another site I can check?

I can't post external links yet (new member) but it was the first result on a Google image search for 'royal doulton marks'. The image is from a Pinterest page, pin/482729653779435256/

The lack of a crown is most likely due to the size of the base. The lion is present, the central Doulton marks are missing, most likely from when it was impressed, ie not firmly enough. It has the shape number which is slightly hard to read plus the decorators mark for Lily Partington who was with Doulton during the 1920's & 30's.

Thanks RonaldKeith, I also found Lily Partington, which led me to think it probably was 1922-1927. I was interested in your suggestion of changes to the stamp owing to the space available for the stamp: it makes perfect sense, but I'd never considered it!
Thank you.
Thank you.
