Charming stylised miniature cat...Polish Czech perhaps

I like this little chap. If there's a paint stamp mark on base the dark blue glaze is hiding it. There's also a slight pertroleum sheen to the glaze.

I was thinking Cmielow or maybe Chodziez but I could not find anything quite like it there.

I have a couple. Not found any with a label or mark. I think it’s most likely to be an Asian import

Sold as ring holders, I believe. I've seen them occassionally listed as Jersey Pottery or made in Italy, but there's no evidence for that .

Cmielow Poland perhaps or is this a mistake?

It would be marked if it was Cmielow, but although I’ve seen a fair number, none have a mark. And there are a lot of Cmielow cat designs with marks; it would be unusual not to mark these too if they made them

I was doing a bit of reading as I'm convinced these have to be Polish. Found a site selling new Cmielow. It struck me that not only does your piece not have any base mark but also missing the painted eye decorations .

So that says to me that someone has got hold of a mould and knocked off a few to sell.

I had this one identified years ago on another forum which is long gone now. Unfortunately i can't remember what it was but i did move the photo to my UK section, so it's from the UK for sure.

Was it before 2000?
