Large Bellarmine Queen Elizabeth 2nd
Hi, I have seen a couple of these online before but they’ve never made it clear who made them.
It Is 13” tall, has the smiling face and 3 crests for Elizabeth and a mark ( w or M ? ) with a number.
Is it right they were made for the Queen’s coronation? Is it British or German?
Thank you.

Re: Large Bellarmine Queen Elizabeth 2nd
A huge number of ceremonial items were made for the Coronation. It wouldn’t surprise me if the orders were outsourced to foreign factories, even from West Germany

Is coronation and Elizabeth 2 marked on there. Can't really read it from the photo. That Really is VERY German. Would not have thought there would have been much sale for such an item at the Coronation.

Re: Large Bellarmine Queen Elizabeth 2nd
It says Elizabeth II Garcia Regina with the British coat of arms and HONI SOLT QUI MAL Y PENSE. No date so maybe not 1953. It does look German like the originals. I’m sure there were Tudor ones made with the British coat of arms.
You’re right though, this is not your average tourist mug as it’s over a foot high and weighs more than 5kg! But it must have been made for an occasion or a place as there’s a few around.

Re: Large Bellarmine Queen Elizabeth 2nd
Strange. The motto you quite there is the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter. It means 'May he be shamed who thinks badly of it' and is French. Then what does Queen Elizabeth GARCIA Regina mean?
An impressive item. Looks somewhat old. That size and weight, I wonder if it was a presentation item or something. I cannot see any relationship to the Coronation tho. Perhaps it has more to do with The Order of the Garter?

I think it's GRACIA REGINA. Does that make more sense?

Re: Large Bellarmine Queen Elizabeth 2nd
It means 'By the Grace of God Queen', which would tie in with the motto from the order of the Garter.
A puzzle tho. What would lt be used for, and who would buy it?
