ID please MA mark on mug - Armour / Bough Pottery?
Could I have this mark identified please. It is a mug, 6" both in diameter and height, the style is very much like Bough pottery, but the mark is not that of other Bough pottery items I've seen. Bough pottery decorators were Elizabeth, Christine, Richard and Arthur Armour as far as I know and all their work appears to be marked with their initial and "Bough". There is crazing on the bottom and the inside of the mug, but not on the decorated parts. Any ideas ?

The shape and style of decoration points to early 20thC origin. Reading up on the Boughs, Elizabeth was one of the Glasgow Girls, and this certainly looks like their style of decoration

Thank you. That's what I thought, but they are not the right initials for the Armour family

I suspect there were more members of the family than those mentioned on sites like StudioPottery; roped in to decorate the pots, especially when they were busy.
“were decorated by herself and other members of her family.... The last member of the family to continue this work was Christine Amour”

It could be that, although the "bough" bit is not there. I did see on one website that there were three brothers and two sisters, but I can only find Elizabeth, Christine, Richard and Arthur on pottery. A missing "michael" ?

Yes, a missing brother seems most likely. David Sharp, Rye Pottery, also got his children to decorate the pots when they had large orders to fill. Unless they’ve carried on as potters in their own right, their names are unlikely to be recorded outside the family.

Thank you. Unless someone comes up with more information, that's as far as I can go now.

Sometimes family members find the threads via Google and contact us with extra info. Fingers crossed :)
