Received a new vase today and thought i would try and show you guys
who have the expertise for pottery etc I hope this maybe either Chinese
or Japanese and 19th century???Is it a vase and would this decoration
be classed as Imari? Hopefully i can be pointed in right direction if possible
Thank you in advance Dan

I believe it’s Japanese Imari. As it’s hand decorated and lacks a mark/country of origin on the base it points to the late 19thC imo

Thank you very much for your reply NaomiM again your a
fab help :) Do you think it's a vase or a decanter for a liquid?
And is the thinking Japanese attribution based on the red being
quite an orange i think i read somewhere that Japanese red is more
of an orange than Chinese Porcelain although just read it somewhere?
Thanks anyway i got some better evidence for making an attribution

It could be a sake bottle. The glazed base points to it being Japanese rather than a Chinese copy. I cant comment on reds; it would be nice to have a large reference collection of 16th-20thC Asian porcelain to use for reference but I'll have to win the lottery first.
