Found the website of the pottery Biron W, it's Belgian and they make some strange stuff nowaday's. Think this candleholder might be from the Art deco period, maybe? I've send them an email for more details.

this looks like a salt glazed base? but then we have a Galaxy of glazes over the body of the jug and plain pewter handle & neck??

any ideas?

It seems you were correct,I just found another saltglazed pot from Belgium and marked 'Biron'

I've just acquired one too. Really nice glaze. I'm assuming the number 35 refers to the shape rather than a date.

On some pots like Leonard Stockleys for example , the number refers to the colour , not saying that's the case here , but potters write all sorts of daft things on the base at times Laughter

often pots are made to experiment and not for sale so the marks are intended for the potter's eyes only
