Small Green/Black Vase.
Hello everyone,
I came across this little vase it measures 6 inches tall by 4 inches wide. No marks on it that I can tell from.
Pottery isn't my specialty and was wondering if anyone could i.d the maker and or put a date on it.
Appears to be old with the glazing having those hairline cracks running through it.
Picked it up while out picking. Paid very little for it. So if it doesn't hold any value no big deal.
Let me know if you can shed any light on this one.
Thank you,
Jeremy

Re: Small Green/Black Vase.
The crackle in the green glaze shows that it was applied before the final firing and, if that is what you describe as hairlines, they are not and do not affect the value to any significant degree.
The dark/black does seems odd, as it looks as if it has been applied after the firing, but you should be able to tell if that is the case better than anyone can from photographs.
Is the vase light in weight?

Re: Small Green/Black Vase.
Thank you for the info.
Yes, the cracks are just in the glazing. I beleive you are correct. The black looks applied afterwards. It has a more matte feel look to it.
It's pretty thick and heavy for its size. I beleive it to be american made. Just trying to maybe date it and see if anyone knows who made it.
Thanks
Jeremy

Re: Small Green/Black Vase.
It looks like raku, but the black colour may be a cold painted wash, on an Asian import
