Rye Pottery
Thanks so much everyone. I have a little shop online but I am quite new and really paranoid about unwittingly selling fake items so I always like to check with the collectors (i.e the experts!) on things I am not sure about or don't have books on yet. That's really tickled me about the copyright

Re: Rye Pottery and other Potteries of Rye
His daughter said he roped his kids in to paint on the coloured glazes if it was a large order, so the quality can be a bit hit and miss. And the kiln was a bit dodgy so sometimes you got a lovely flambé red colour and other times a washed out brown :)

David's "other hobby" meant that he often stopped the kiln or opened it too early and so ruined everything. So it was more likely the potter at fault rather than the kiln.
I remember visiting the basement of the pottery after his death and seeing lots of his experimental art creations but all had firing cracks etc. because he was too keen to open the kiln to see what was inside. I recall that they looked interesting but I only saw them by torchlight, as the electricity in the basement was up the creek too.

It is a stamp used by Tarquin Cole from 1997.

The pattern was called Tracery and I agree with you regarding the date.

One of the first exhibitions that I held after taking over the Harlequin Gallery in 1999 was "The Potteries of Rye". The invitation card showed a similar lamp base to the one above.
The dish shown was fully signed by Denis Townsend at Rye Pottery - so a special piece rather than his apprentice stamp.
