Wayntone Ware 'Margaret Rose'
Hi again everyone. You were so helpful last time I thought I'd try again with another piece. This one has lots of info on the base but I've come up with nothing at all searching online.
The base states that it's 'Wayntone Ware' from Longton in Stoke on Trent. Either designer/painter or the style is 'Margaret Rose' and its designed for Alfred Turner & Sons in Blackburn.
While I can find a bit about 'Margaret Rose' (though nothing very similar) I can't find any info on Wayntone Ware or the shop either.
My assumption is it's 50s, mainly from the text on the bottom, but any other info people might have would be very interesting!
Pics below. Thank you again, Nick

Re: Wayntone Ware 'Margaret Rose'
The design is 1930s.
Wayntone Ware will be the name of the range produced by a particular pottery,
though there is no mention in Goddens.
Margaret rose will be the pattern name.
Alfred Turner will be a wholesaler or retailer.

Re: Wayntone Ware 'Margaret Rose'
Could it be Brentleigh?
I wonder if the pattern on the base is camouflaging any impressed makers' mark? Have you tried looking across the base from various angles, maybe shining a torch almost horizontally across to pick out any shadows which could suggest a hidden mark? Because shallow or in-filled marks can be hard to spot you'd need to run the torch all the way around the base to cover a full 360-deg.

Brentleigh style certainly, but not if the pattern is properly glazed,
as opposed to cold-painted.

Another thought, possibly a long shot, is Charlotte Rheade when she designed for Crown Ducal.

Re: Wayntone Ware 'Margaret Rose'
I suggest, just a one-off order from a large pottery, by a wholesaler who may have
invented the name and asked for it to be marked as such, in place of the pottery.
A not uncommon practice.

Thanks Denby (and others) I really appreciate the thought and information. I suppose that means it has little value to an aficionado, just the aesthetic value to someone who likes the look of it...?!

That is something that is often difficult for members, including myself, to write but now that you've mentioned it.
