Jack Kenny, Seasalter Pottery
hi all
Picked up this jug the other day. Marks are very difficult to photograph and even make out with the naked eye due to being under the glaze, you have to get it just at the right angle but I think the first seal is Winchcombe? The jug certainly has the right look... The second seal is a mystery though, as it's just an "S" which i haven't been able to find online anywhere. The S is central to the mark so doesn't look like there is room for a "T" next to it for Sydney Tustin.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Re: Jack Kenny, Seasalter Pottery
Not sure if the first mark is the Winchcombe mark. Can we see an image of the jug please, as that would help?

The glazes don't really look "Winchcombe".
Looking at the mark that you think is Winchcombe, might it be a J and K joined?

Hi studio-pots
I can't really see that, but it could be a J and an R back to back i suppose. If you look at the first image (but in the second post where i got it the right way up!) and move your eye line up/down and left/right to the screen, so the contrast changes, i think you might make out the WP?... while looking a bit mad!

It could be Jack's but we never saw the jug, which would have helped a great deal.
For all the time that I knew him, he only used an S mark and no other. However, I did pick up something since the original post with both marks + a sticky label. I will see if I can dig the piece out.

Re: Jack Kenny, Seasalter Pottery
Here's my contribution to the Jack Kenny page/pages.
A rather portly & very sweet looking teapot with iron glaze. Doubly marked with his Seasalter mark and his JK.. mark. Either side of the 'S' for Seasalter there is a reversed '7' mark....was this normal?
Any idea of a date would be much appreciated if anyone is able.
Regards,
Jay.

Re: Jack Kenny, Seasalter Pottery
With both those marks, I think it will be 20th century.

Thank you Studio Pots.....so just the right age for this forum then ;-)
Do you have anything to tell me about the two reversed '7' characters in his Seasalter mark I wonder?
Regards,
Jay.
