Re: Batterham? Ash glaze stoneware bowl
As always with Batterham there is only so much you can tell from a photo. The glaze looks right. But those incised lines I can't say I have seen on a Batterham. The main thing that would worry me though, is those bumps or small nodules. Richard Batterham was a perfectionist and that is why his reputation is so great. Those nodules certainly add character, and charm. But as far as a Batterham piece goes they are imperfections., and that is something you do not see on a Batterham. Given he does not mark his work, and he is so widely admired and copied, it is all down to style and the personal 'feel' one has about a piece, and there is another problem. You can only tell so much from a photo, and A Batterham piece is about how it feels in the hand, the balance, the form.....
Though of course,I am probably wrong!

Thank you Philpot for taking the time. I’ve only handled a few of his pieces and this feels right but I can’t be sure. I’ll take more of a look and see if there are similar bowls by him out there. Thank you again.
