Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Excellent, thank you Martyn. I can see now that the mark is tilted 45 degrees to the left, the A becomes a bit more apparent when you straighten it up.
Here's a link I just found http://www.cornishceramics.com/palanbrough.htm

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Would I be right in assuming this is the same Alan Brough who was throwing for Maggi at Celtic Pottery for a while ? That link makes no mention of it.

Porcelain yunomi - Alan Brough
Nicely made porcelain goblet, the mark is glazed over, but is clearly AB, not BB back-to-back.
Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Thanks Potty, Had a look at some marks on studiopottery.com and there are a couple
the same. He used so many variations of AB in squares etc.
I'd given up on that one, as that mark is not in the book, or that he worked in porcelain,
which is what I feel it is.
cheers.

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
I think that he only used porcelain towards the end of his life but the decoration is really the give away.

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Because of the way that the images on the site are behaving at the moment, I haven't been able to see the seal but the glaze splash "shouts" Alan Brough.

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Looks like one of Alan Brough's marks, but I've never seen a piece like this. But there's always a first time :)
Edited to say, several have turned up in recent years, and a couple being sold at Partridges as Alan Brough, so adding to to the Ala Brough thread

I think your right. The mark is the same. It's just an unusual item from him.

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
Nice yunomi which the seller attributed to Alan Brough, and I've no reason not to trust him. Another hand inscribed AB mark to add to the discussion. Mark is similar to this handwritten one on a plate commissioned for the eclipse

Alan Brough - Newlyn Pottery
I picked these up in a charity shop this week for a couple of quid for the pair - they look much better in my cabinet, labelled up! Made after his stint at Leach, at his Newlyn studio, I think these are from his Newlyn Coffeeware set. I don't see much about him or many of his pottery examples online - any collectors out there?

Re: Alan Brough, Newlyn Pottery
His work steadily appears in auction, especially around West Cornwall. This is a link to the Saleroom auction site which lists some of his work to appear at auction.

A general request to members to use the 640 px width setting when uploading photos, so as to keep the image inside the comment box.
