Re: Small Stoneware Pot
The willow motif is Japanese but I don’t see the function in these two pieces together; maybe they are meant to be used separately

This crossed my mind, perhaps it was used to pour the contents into and drink from, light snack or incense maybe, and did have a lid originally.NaomiM wrote:The willow motif is Japanese but I don’t see the function in these two pieces together; maybe they are meant to be used separately

Re: Small Stoneware Pot
I have had a reply from the FB Japanese Studio Pottery Collectors page and confirmed not Japanese but western pottery. I have written more clear full mark on a piece of paper. Could this be by Peter Simpson?NaomiM wrote:The willow motif is Japanese but I don’t see the function in these two pieces together; maybe they are meant to be used separately

Re: Small Stoneware Pot
It’s possibly an early piece just based on the mark , but it’s nothing like the pieces he’s known for

Yes, I think that's Simpson's stamp. The cross bar on the H is slightly at an angle

Just to add, the cross bar on the stamp on your pot isn't at an angle

Re: Small Stoneware Pot
It is at an angle, with the mark being on the side of the pot and the curvature of the pot it throws out the angle a little in the photo. Anyway, we will say the jury is still out on this one until someone is familiar with the mark might post or pop up online in the future. What a minefield studio pottery is when it comes to marks, I guess that's what makes it a fascinating and educational medium. Thanks again NaomiNaomiM wrote:Just to add, the cross bar on the stamp on your pot isn't at an angle
