Chinese dragon storage jar Empty Chinese dragon storage jar

14” tall stoneware jar
Very Raised dragon design. Hand incised neck.
I’ve seen modern planters like this and other jars sold as antiques.
How can I know if this is old or not?
Also how is the dragon made so raised up?

Could be old Shrugs Difficult to tell. Many modern copies are currently imported from Thailand by the Garden Centres

It looks new to me. They always leave the bottoms a bit rough.

The dragon decoration is slip applied via a stencil, and copied from designs passed down the generations
