MCM Pottery Lamp By Ivo De Santis for Gli Etruschi, Italy
I wasn't sure if I should post in the pottery group or the lighting group but I'm thinking this was made by a ceramic/pottery company so here I am. Got this awesome lamp with a cool geometric pattern on the front and back (sides are the base goldenrod color). It is marked on the bottom with a style/color/shape number and Base Made .........AARGH! I'm thinking it's Italian but I not 100% sure. So if anyone can shed a little light (accidental pun) on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I suspect the writing on the missing part of the base originally said Made in Italy.

I think so to, just wanted some affirmation. Now on the mystery of who made it. Should I start a new topic in the European Pottery forum?
Thanks
Thanks

No, here is fine. The other ceramics groups are for identified items.

It might be a Fratelli Fanciullacci piece. That company tended to use four digit numbers, whereas Bitossi tended to add a letter and have two or three numbers. Unfortunately many of the records from the Italian ceramics manufacturers were lost in the latter half of the 20thC so tracking down the maker can be difficult unless they made multiple copies of the items.

Wow, can you read my mind? I figured it wasn't Bitossi (no B) or Bagni (no L for lamp). I just don't think of lamps when I think of Fratelli but they were very fond of geometric shapes & patterns so it's seems feasible. Thanks for the possible lead.

For anyone interested the lamp was not made by any of the ceramic house previously mentioned. The lamp was created by Ivo De Santis , owner of the ceramic house Gli Etruschi. He worked closely with Raymor in the 1950's. Mystery solved.

Noooo... you can't just jump from total mystery to total solution, just like that! How did you find out? For some of us (well, me anyway), we see the forum posts in ID My Pottery as little detective stories, enjoying the moment when the puzzle is solved through research, observation, ingenuity, prior experience, someone suddenly remembering something that makes that all-important link...sometimes the query take several years to be resolved. So please tell me, how did you do it? Thanks, Squirrelboy 70!

It was just sheer dumb luck. I was doing some detective work on another piece of pottery that I thought might be Italian. So I began typing in the names of well known makers. When I got to Fratelli Fanciullacci (which is who I thought may have made the lamp) I came across a vase I thought was interesting. It was totally unrelated to either searches so of course I clicked on it. When the side search came up I decided to scroll down further to see what other "rabbit holes" I could go down and guess what I found, a vase that was identical to my lamp. Clicked on it and the mystery was solved.

Excellent! I don't call that luck though, I would say that was research - knowing what you were looking for, knowing where to look, following up the leads, and knowing what you were looking at. Once or twice I have had an idea about something but have just been unable to make the link, because we only have what has already been photographed and entered on line. A very satisfying ending - Congratulations, and thank you for resolving the story!
