LARGE CARVED WOOD NEEDLE? Empty LARGE CARVED WOOD NEEDLE?

Anyone seen one of these before, or any idea what it might be used for? Could be tribal... In two parts, when together forms a needle type tool measures 11", can be pulled apart and slotted through a hole in the handle end... Some kind of twisting device, maybe wind thread around the handle?? If anyone knows origin and use, that would be great. Thanks
