Dog in a sack
Please don’t judge me but I have this piece.
I could say I was asking “for a friend”
I’m surprised my wife hasn’t commented yet as he was sat on the table at lunch today.
Stoneware, sack is hand modelled, dog looks like he is all hand made & hand painted too.
Felt base, no mark.
If he is all hand made would that suggest an amateur making something for fun as would be pretty time consuming.?
Or did I miss out on the Animals in Sacks Collectors Series in the 1970s and there’s loads of them out there?
Thank you!

Re: Dog in a sack
Looks cast. Might be resin rather than pottery

Re: Dog in a sack
I know what you mean. It looks like the resin pigs in the bath etc. I’ve just checked with hot needle and doesn’t go in at all. I was pretty sure it is clay but then stripped back the felt and it looks very odd. A white resin stuff that a needle doesn’t go into? A hard plaster stuff? Or a porcelain? I’m a bit mystified but I’m more than happy if you reassure me it’s resin c**p!

Cheers :) Could be by the lady who makes sheep; she uses the same technique for their woolly coats. I had a few at one time. I'll look up the name.

I’ve just emailed Sarah to ask. I’m not sure what it’s made of though.

Re: Dog in a sack
Looks like plaster of Paris. If you scratch the underside with your fingernail does it leave a chalky residue?

Not Sarah D’Arcy. She thought it was a bear. I thought pug.
But Grumpy, it’s not plaster, it’s very hard and I think maybe Naomi was right with a resin stuff - but a hard one that doesn’t melt? I don’t know what stuff ornaments are made of these days. So probably one for the car boot. Thank you- it’s really helpful
