It's a real mess, to be honest. But, the glaze is really lovely and I cannot go to a car boot and come away with nothing. My solitary purchase this morning and at a pound I'm going to enjoy it for a little while before sending it on its way.

French, maybe? Sampling cup for wine or oil? Maybe it was tied to the side of the barrel?

That's interesting Naomi, though I'm surprised someone would want to mark this, it is just so rough and completely out of sync.
Rightly or wrongly I believe it's got some age, was thick with dust.
Gave it a good wash and it's come up lovely, even if it is a hot mess.

There is a gallery for amateur pieces that are so bad they're perfect. Your hot mess would fit right in.

Hahaha, yes, it would.
Just had a flick through and am not ashamed to say that I really like a fair few of them.
No accounting for taste

I like the husband head jug thing, I would have picked it up and paid a few quid for it
And they are ( mostly ) better than my very poor efforts!

I don’t think it’s an amateur piece. More likely to be provincial pottery
